DOHA — Somalia and Qatar have held high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing security cooperation between the two brotherly nations, officials said on Tuesday.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration between the security institutions of both countries, particularly in areas related to internal security, capacity building, and the exchange of expertise. Somalia and Qatar are both members of the Arab League and have maintained close diplomatic ties in recent years.
Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, who is on an official visit to Qatar, met with Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani, Minister of State at Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, in Doha.
According to officials, the meeting reviewed ways to reinforce existing security cooperation frameworks and explored opportunities to improve coordination between relevant institutions. The two sides emphasized the importance of joint efforts to address common security challenges, including counterterrorism, border security, and institutional development.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation through training programs, technical support, and information-sharing mechanisms, underscoring the role of security collaboration in promoting regional stability.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the longstanding fraternal relations between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Somalia, and reflects a shared commitment to sustained partnership and mutual support across political, security, and development sectors.
Officials from both countries expressed optimism that the discussions would contribute to further consolidating bilateral ties and enhancing Somalia’s security sector capabilities with the support of Qatar.
