MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamsa Abdi Barre, on Saturday received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, Wang Yu, at his office in Mogadishu. The meeting focused on deepening the historic ties between the two countries and accelerating cooperation in security, economic development, and trade.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre emphasized Somalia’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with China, particularly in security and economic development, to ensure lasting peace and stability. He also highlighted the importance of encouraging Chinese investment in Somalia, especially in infrastructure projects, ports, and road networks.

Ambassador Wang Yu welcomed Somalia’s efforts to enhance security and economic development and pledged that China would continue supporting initiatives in development and trade cooperation. He also expressed China’s readiness to participate in key infrastructure projects and support the capacity building of Somali professionals.

Both sides agreed to enhance knowledge exchange and training to improve the capabilities of Somali government institutions, particularly in the areas of security, finance, and trade. They also agreed to create new avenues of collaboration between Somali and Chinese businesses to increase trade opportunities for both countries.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the historic relationship between Somalia and China, demonstrating the commitment of both governments to advance strategic cooperation and promote regional economic growth.
