The Government of Turkey has signed a memorandum of understanding with several African countries that have strategic ports, including Somalia. The agreement focuses on strengthening cooperation in transportation, enhancing trade connectivity, boosting production, and promoting economic growth across the region.

Somalia was represented in the signing by the Minister of Marine Transport and Ports, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama). The minister described the agreement as vital for African countries, including Somalia.

“Today, we successfully concluded the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye and the ministries responsible for transport and infrastructure in African coastal states,” said Minister Abdulkadir Jama.

The minister noted that this is an important step toward uniting African coastal nations with Turkey to jointly develop connectivity infrastructure and build a strong economic future.

“The Federal Government of Somalia, in line with its strategy to enhance infrastructure, is committed to developing Somali ports, which are a key economic lifeline for the country. Our goal is to achieve lasting self-reliance and create job opportunities and economic growth,” added the Minister of Marine Transport and Ports.

Somalia has previously signed several agreements with Turkey that serve Somalia’s interests. Turkey has been awarded contracts for oil exploration in Somalia, and Turkish companies also manage Mogadishu’s airport and port.
