MOGADISHU — President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Friday received a high-level delegation from the Republic of Türkiye at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu, led by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.

The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen the long-standing strategic partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, with particular focus on cooperation in energy, natural resources, and the blue economy.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud described Somalia–Türkiye energy cooperation as having reached a “historic milestone,” saying it reflects growing trust and shared strategic interests between the two countries. He noted that recent developments, including the deployment of the Cagri Bay vessel, mark a new phase in Somalia’s efforts to harness its natural resources and accelerate economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.

The president said the partnership supports Somalia’s broader national priorities, including maximizing the country’s untapped offshore and onshore resources and strengthening economic self-reliance.

For his part, Minister Alparslan Bayraktar thanked the Somali leadership and people for their hospitality, describing the reception as a reflection of strong bilateral relations. He said the deployment of the Cagri Bay and the start of drilling operations demonstrate tangible progress in implementing the energy cooperation agreement between Türkiye and Somalia.

The visit comes as Somalia and Türkiye continue to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors, including energy exploration, infrastructure development, security, and capacity building.
