MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Foreign Minister on Tuesday formally saw off Russia’s Ambassador to Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, as he concluded his diplomatic mission in the country.
The farewell ceremony, held in Mogadishu, marked the end of Ambassador Golovanov’s tenure representing the Russian Federation in Somalia, during which he worked to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Officials said the meeting highlighted discussions on cooperation in areas such as diplomacy, security engagement, and broader international relations between Mogadishu and Moscow.
The Foreign Minister praised the ambassador for his service and contribution to enhancing ties between Somalia and Russia, noting that diplomatic relations had been maintained and developed during his assignment.
Ambassador Golovanov expressed appreciation for his time in Somalia and reaffirmed Russia’s continued interest in cooperation with the Somali government, according to officials present at the event.
Somalia and Russia have in recent years sought to expand diplomatic engagement as Mogadishu continues to strengthen international partnerships amid ongoing security and political challenges, including the fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
