MOGADISHU — Somali traditional leader Sultan Abdijamaal Mohamed Ali has issued a peace appeal to all Somalis, urging political leaders and citizens alike to prioritize dialogue, national unity and stability amid ongoing political tensions in the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the sultan called on the Federal Government of Somalia and opposition groups to refrain from actions or rhetoric that could fuel confrontation, insecurity or instability, particularly in the capital, Mogadishu, and the wider Banadir region.
“The interests of Somalia, its people and future generations lie in constructive dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful solutions,” Sultan Abdijamaal said, stressing the importance of resolving political differences through consultation rather than conflict.
The traditional leader appealed to all stakeholders to uphold peace and social cohesion, warning that political disputes should not be allowed to undermine hard-won gains in security and state-building.
He also urged residents of Banadir and Somalis across the country and abroad to preserve national unity and avoid activities that could incite violence, division or public unrest.
Somalia has made progress in rebuilding state institutions after decades of conflict, but political disagreements have periodically raised concerns over stability and governance. Traditional elders and community leaders have often played a key role in mediation efforts and conflict resolution.
Sultan Abdijamaal emphasized that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility shared by political leaders, civil society, traditional authorities and ordinary citizens.
He concluded his appeal by praying for lasting peace, stability and development in Somalia, and for greater understanding and solidarity among the Somali people.
“May Allah bless Somalia with peace, security and prosperity, and bring the hearts of Somalis closer together,” he said.
The appeal comes as Somali leaders face growing calls from various sectors of society to resolve political differences through dialogue and consensus, with many citizens emphasizing the need to safeguard national stability and focus on development and public welfare.
