MOGADISHU — The Somali government on Friday issued a strong warning against the possession and use of weapons outside official security structures in the capital Mogadishu, describing such activities as illegal and a threat to national stability.
Authorities said any armed presence or operations not authorized by the state are unacceptable and violate Somali law. The government stressed that only recognised security forces are legally permitted to carry weapons in the city.
Officials said these actions undermine ongoing efforts to restore security and strengthen state institutions after years of conflict, according to the newly appointed Minister of Information, H.E. Abdifitah Qasim Mohamud.
They warned that individuals or groups engaging in unauthorized armed activity are serving the interests of forces seeking to destabilize Somalia.
The statement comes as security remains fragile in parts of Mogadishu, where sporadic incidents of violence continue despite intensified government operations.
Security agencies have been instructed to take firm action against violations of weapons regulations, while the public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting illegal armed activity.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring order in the capital and strengthening the rule of law as part of broader national stabilization efforts.
