ISTANBUL – Somalia and Tanzania have agreed to strengthen trade and economic cooperation following talks in Istanbul between Somalia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Jamal Mohamed Hassan, and Tanzania’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Judith Silvio Kapinga.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, supporting private sector growth, and creating new investment opportunities between the two countries.

Both sides emphasized the need to develop practical frameworks to facilitate business partnerships and improve market access for entrepreneurs, with a focus on boosting commercial exchange and industrial cooperation.

The talks also highlighted the importance of regional economic integration in East Africa, with officials noting that closer collaboration could help unlock new opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture and trade services.

The Somali side said the meeting aimed to lay the groundwork for long-term economic engagement that would benefit businesses and communities in both countries.

The discussions come as African states increasingly seek to strengthen South-South cooperation and expand intra-African trade under regional and continental frameworks.
