Somali Forces, Allies Carry Out Airstrikes Against Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle

MOGADISHU — The Somali National Armed Forces, in coordination with international partners, conducted airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the Middle Shabelle region, officials said.

The strikes reportedly hit militant hideouts and logistical sites used by the armed group, which has been fighting the Somali government for years.

Military sources said around 30 suspected Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the operation, while vehicles, motorcycles, weapons, and other military supplies were destroyed.

Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to weaken the group’s operational capacity and disrupt its movements in central Somalia.

Al-Shabaab, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, frequently carries out attacks against Somali security forces, government officials, and civilians, but has faced increased military pressure in recent counter-offensives backed by international partners.

Officials did not immediately provide independent verification of the casualty figures, and the group has not yet commented on the reported strikes.
