In contrast, most Western governments are not expected to participate at senior level, with diplomatic tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional conflicts, and sanctions shaping attendance decisions. Some European countries may instead send lower-level diplomatic representatives.
The funeral comes at a moment of heightened regional instability, with Iran playing a central role in multiple geopolitical disputes across the Middle East. Security in Tehran has been significantly reinforced, with large-scale deployments expected around major religious and state venues.
Analysts say the composition of foreign delegations is likely to reflect current global geopolitical divisions, with attendance effectively serving as a symbolic measure of Iran’s international alliances and its isolation from Western diplomatic circles.
Authorities say final confirmations are still being processed, and the list of attending leaders is expected to be updated as delegations arrive in Tehran in the coming hours.
