Sisi: No popular normalisation with Israel without Palestinian state

CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said there will be “no popular normalisation” with Israel unless a just peace is achieved that ends the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Speaking during the inauguration of Egypt’s State Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Sisi said lasting peace and regional stability cannot be achieved without resolving the Palestinian issue.

“There will be no lasting peace, no true stability, and no popular normalisation except with a just peace that ends the occupation, puts an end to injustice and aggression, restores rights to their rightful owners, and provides security for all,” the Egyptian leader said.

Sisi added that a comprehensive peace agreement would offer the peoples of the Middle East an opportunity to live in stability, security, and prosperity. He also called for continued support for the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect in October 2025, as well as a recent U.S.-Iran framework agreement, urging all parties to prevent efforts that could undermine those accords.

The remarks came during the inauguration of Egypt’s new State Strategic Command headquarters, which Sisi described as a major enhancement of the country’s military command, control, and crisis management capabilities. The facility integrates advanced communications, intelligence, and operational systems designed to improve coordination between Egypt’s political and military leadership.

Sisi’s comments reflect Egypt’s longstanding position that a comprehensive settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, remains essential for achieving lasting peace and broader normalization in the region.
