WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States is prepared to launch a major military response against Iran if Tehran attempts to carry out any assassination plot against him, according to remarks reported by Reuters.

Speaking about alleged threats linked to Iran, Trump said he has already instructed US military officials to maintain plans for a decisive response in the event of an attack. He claimed that extensive military options have been prepared and would be implemented immediately if Iran were to target him or other senior American leaders.

“There are 1,000 missiles aimed directly at Iran, and thousands more would follow immediately if Iran carries out or attempts its threat to kill the President of the United States,” Trump said. “The person they want to target is me.”

The remarks highlight the deep tensions that have persisted between Washington and Tehran since the January 2020 US drone strike in Baghdad that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, one of Iran’s most powerful military commanders. Following Soleimani’s death, Iranian leaders vowed revenge, while US intelligence and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned of potential threats against current and former American officials involved in the operation.

In recent years, the US Department of Justice has announced several cases involving individuals accused of participating in alleged Iranian-backed plots targeting American officials. Iran has consistently rejected those allegations, describing them as politically motivated and denying any involvement in assassination attempts.

Trump did not provide evidence of any imminent threat but emphasized that any attack against him would trigger an overwhelming military response. His comments come at a time when relations between the United States and Iran remain strained over regional security issues, Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, and the activities of armed groups aligned with Tehran across the Middle East.

Security analysts say such statements reflect the continuing hostility between the two countries and could further increase tensions in an already volatile region. Observers have also noted that any direct confrontation between the United States and Iran would carry significant implications for regional stability, global energy markets, and international security.

Iranian officials have not immediately responded to Trump’s latest remarks. However, Tehran has previously stated that it seeks accountability for Soleimani’s killing through legal and political means rather than through acts of terrorism or assassination.
