TEHRAN — Iran has warned that any attack targeting its critical infrastructure would trigger a direct response, with senior officials saying Israel would face retaliation if it carries out strikes against Iranian facilities.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran’s position remains unchanged and that any assault on infrastructure would be answered with a similar response.
“As we have previously announced, any attack on infrastructure will be met with retaliation in kind,” Zolghadr said in a statement carried by Iran’s Mehr News Agency.
The warning comes amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel, with both countries continuing to issue threats against each other amid wider regional instability. Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that any military action against Iranian territory would lead to consequences, while Israeli officials have maintained that they reserve the right to act against what they describe as security threats.
Iranian authorities have emphasized that attacks on energy facilities, military sites, transportation networks, or other strategic infrastructure would represent a major escalation. Tehran has previously warned that it would respond to such actions using its military capabilities.
The latest remarks follow a period of increased hostility in the Middle East, where conflicts and security disputes involving Iran and its allies have raised concerns about the possibility of a broader regional confrontation.
