MOGADISHU – The Acting Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, has met with Sweden’s Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Hans Lundquist, to express appreciation for Sweden’s continued partnership and support for peace and security efforts in Somalia.
During the meeting, Ms. Sadozai thanked Sweden for its contribution to the Somali Security Forces Trust Fund (SSF Trust Fund), which is designed to provide critical support to Somali Security Forces (SSF) as they carry out joint and coordinated operations, particularly on the front lines against security threats.
The UNSOS chief highlighted the importance of international partnerships in strengthening Somalia’s security institutions and supporting the country’s efforts to build capable, accountable, and sustainable national forces.
Sweden’s contribution is expected to assist Somali Security Forces through enhanced operational support, improved coordination, and resources needed for security operations. The SSF Trust Fund serves as an important mechanism for international partners to provide targeted assistance to Somalia’s security sector.
Ambassador Hans Lundquist reaffirmed Sweden’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s peacebuilding and stabilization efforts, including cooperation with the United Nations and Somali institutions.
The partnership between Sweden and UNSOS reflects broader international efforts to support Somalia’s security transition, as Somali forces continue to take greater responsibility for national security and counter-terrorism operations.
