Mogadishu — The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), met on July 3, 2025, with senior officials from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in his office.

They discussed ways to fast-track key infrastructure projects in the capital.
This meeting focused on advancing the reconstruction of Mogadishu’s roads and establishing high-quality drainage systems to provide lasting solutions to flooding, stagnant water, and other challenges that have long affected the city’s road network. Representatives from companies engaged in infrastructure development also joined the discussions.
Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships to ensure the successful delivery of these vital projects. The participants also agreed that addressing these challenges is crucial to improving the quality of life for Mogadishu’s residents.
UNOPS Somalia head, Mr. Ala’s Namer, highlighted that the agency’s work extends beyond construction. He reaffirmed UNOPS’s commitment to building local capacity and transferring expertise in infrastructure development, aiming to equip Somali professionals with the skills needed to implement and manage the country’s infrastructure sustainably.
