TEHRAN — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned the United States that it would face “unforgettable lessons” if attacks against Iran continue, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high.
Speaking in remarks carried by Iranian state media, Khamenei said Iran would not back down in the face of what he described as foreign aggression, warning that any further military action would trigger a response from the Islamic Republic.
“The Iranian nation will not accept threats or pressure,” Khamenei said, according to the reports, adding that those who challenge Iran should understand the consequences of their actions.
The warning comes amid growing friction between Iran and the United States over regional security issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, military presence in the region, and the activities of allied armed groups across the Middle East.
Iranian officials have repeatedly accused Washington of pursuing a policy aimed at weakening the country, while US officials have said their actions are intended to protect American interests and counter threats posed by Iran and its partners.
The latest comments from Khamenei, Iran’s highest-ranking political and religious authority, underscore the deep divisions between the two countries, which have had no formal diplomatic relations since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The United States and Iran have experienced repeated periods of confrontation in recent years, including disputes over sanctions, military deployments, and attacks involving groups aligned with Tehran.
Analysts warn that further escalation could have wider consequences for regional stability, particularly in areas where Iranian-backed groups and US forces operate in close proximity.
