CAIRO — A Somali police cadet enrolled at the Egyptian Police Academy was reportedly killed on Thursday night in Cairo’s Nasr City district, an area known among members of the Somali community in Egypt as “Gaamaca.”
According to preliminary information, the deceased was a first-year cadet undergoing police training under a scholarship program for international students. He had reportedly left the academy as part of the regular weekend leave granted to foreign trainees, which generally allows cadets to spend time outside the academy between Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon.
Sources familiar with the incident said the cadet was staying with another Somali man during the leave period when a disagreement allegedly broke out between the two. The argument is reported to have escalated into a physical confrontation.
Witness accounts and preliminary reports indicate that the suspect allegedly used a knife during the altercation, inflicting fatal injuries on the cadet. Emergency services were reportedly alerted, but the victim succumbed to his injuries.
