NAIROBI — President William Ruto has credited former President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him time to develop the political ideas that later shaped the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
Ruto said the two-year leave of absence he received during the Jubilee administration allowed him to focus on writing and refining the manifesto that became the foundation of his 2022 presidential campaign.
“I want to thank my predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, for giving me leave of absence for two years. I used that time to write the Kenya Kwanza manifesto. I am very proud of that manifesto,” Ruto said.
The President described the document as a blueprint for economic transformation, highlighting policies focused on empowering small businesses, supporting farmers, expanding employment opportunities, and improving livelihoods.
The remarks come amid continued political discussions over the legacy of the Jubilee government and the transition that saw Ruto move from Deputy President to head of state after a competitive 2022 election.
Ruto’s comments also reflect the changing political relationship between him and Uhuru Kenyatta, who were once close allies before differences emerged over political direction and succession plans.
As his administration advances the Kenya Kwanza agenda, Ruto continues to present the manifesto as the foundation for his government’s economic strategy and long-term development goals
