MOGADISHU — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has strongly condemned Israel’s military offensive, reaffirming Somalia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and urging the international community to take decisive action to end the conflict and address the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Speaking during the opening of the Eighth Session of the Federal Parliament on Saturday, the president declared that Somalia “clearly rejects the Israeli offensive,” describing the ongoing military campaign as unacceptable and expressing deep concern over the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of vital infrastructure.
“We have clearly rejected the Israeli offensive,” President Hassan Sheikh told lawmakers, reaffirming Somalia’s longstanding position in support of the Palestinian cause.
The president said Somalia remains committed to advocating for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and the full respect of international humanitarian law. He stressed that innocent civilians—including women, children, and the elderly—must be protected and that humanitarian aid should be allowed to reach affected communities without obstruction.
Hassan Sheikh emphasized that peace and stability in the Middle East can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, and a political solution based on international law. He reiterated Somalia’s support for efforts aimed at securing a lasting and just peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
The Somali leader also called on the international community, regional organizations, and the United Nations to intensify diplomatic efforts to stop the violence, prevent further escalation, and support humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict.
He reaffirmed Somalia’s longstanding support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, and reiterated the country’s backing for a two-state solution in line with relevant United Nations resolutions and internationally recognized agreements.
Somalia has consistently expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people in international forums and has repeatedly urged the global community to work toward a peaceful resolution that guarantees security, dignity, and lasting stability for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The president’s remarks come amid continued international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where ongoing hostilities have intensified calls from governments and international organizations for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian access, and renewed diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
