MOGADISHU — A Yemeni citizen was fatally stabbed inside a mosque in Mogadishu while performing Friday prayers, according to his brother, Mohammed Hassan Al-Musbahi.
The victim, identified as Fikri Hassan Al-Musbahi, was reportedly stabbed multiple times inside the Hayat Market Mosque in Mogadishu’s Bondhere district, resulting in his death.
His family received the news with profound sorrow and grief, describing the incident as a horrific and shocking crime that violated both the sanctity of human life and the sacredness of a place of worship.
According to his brother, Fikri had previously worked at the Al-Mansoura Power Station in Aden, Yemen, before moving to Somalia to work for an electricity company in search of employment and a livelihood to support his family.
The family described him as a man known for his good character and respected reputation among those who knew him.
The family’s account alleges that a Somali national was responsible for the stabbing. However, the circumstances and motive behind the incident have not been independently established.
The Al-Musbahi family has strongly condemned the killing and called on Somali authorities to launch an immediate, transparent and thorough investigation to determine what happened, establish the motive and bring the alleged perpetrator to justice.
The family also appealed to the relevant Yemeni authorities, the Yemeni Embassy in Somalia and the company that employed the deceased to follow up on the case and coordinate with Somali officials to ensure justice and protect the rights of the victim and his family.
They further requested that the necessary procedures to repatriate Fikri’s body to Yemen be completed as quickly as possible so that he can be buried among his relatives and loved ones.
The family emphasized that it is seeking justice and the rule of law, not revenge, saying the killing was an affront to the dignity of Yemeni citizens and their right to life and security while living and working abroad.
