Qoor-Qoor Reverses Course as Galmudug Tensions Rise

DHUUSAMAREEB — Political tensions in Galmudug are reportedly entering a new phase, with sources claiming that President Ahmed Abdi Karie, widely known as “Qoor-Qoor”, has reconsidered an earlier political compromise amid renewed disputes over the state’s leadership and electoral process.

Sources familiar with the political discussions allege that Qoor-Qoor has informed politicians close to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud that he is no longer prepared to honour the previous understanding.

The reported shift comes amid renewed political manoeuvring involving current and former Galmudug leaders and growing disagreements over the direction of the state’s electoral process.

Qoor-Qoor had previously announced that he would not seek another term as president of Galmudug. The latest claims, however, suggest that the political understanding may now be under strain.

The developments also follow renewed debate involving Hirshabelle President Ali Gudlawe and his reported political role in the wider contest for influence in Somalia’s federal member states.

Meanwhile, sources allege that consultations are taking place between Qoor-Qoor, opposition politicians and figures associated with Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a. The reported discussions are said to focus on the electoral process and the role of the federal government in Galmudug affairs.

The dispute comes as Somalia’s political landscape remains deeply contested, with rival groups seeking greater influence over the organisation and outcome of state-level elections.

The claims that Qoor-Qoor has formally abandoned his earlier political compromise, or that a new alliance involving Ahlu Sunna has been concluded, have not been independently verified.

The latest developments could add further uncertainty to Galmudug’s political transition as negotiations continue over the state’s electoral arrangements and future leadership.
