NEW YORK — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has represented Somalia at the United Nations General Assembly during both of his presidential periods, following his election to the presidency in 2012 and his return to office in 2022.
During his first presidency, Hassan Sheikh addressed the UN General Assembly, presenting Somalia’s priorities at a time when the country was undergoing political transition and rebuilding its institutions.
After returning to office in 2022, he again took the UN podium to present Somalia’s position on issues including security, development, international cooperation and regional stability.
His appearances at the General Assembly span both periods of his presidency, making the UN one of the key international platforms where he has represented Somalia and presented the country’s priorities to the global community.
