GEDO — Jubaland Darawish forces have entered the border town of Beled Hawo peacefully without engaging in fighting with other security forces, according to Gedo Regional Police Commander Colonel Diyaad Abdi Khalil.
Speaking to the media, Colonel Diyaad said the Jubaland forces had arrived in the town without armed confrontation and had taken up positions at locations designated for them in advance.
He dismissed reports suggesting that Jubaland forces had seized Beled Hawo by force or taken control of parts of the town through military action.
According to the police commander, the troops’ arrival did not involve fighting, and some local residents and officials already present in the town welcomed the forces.
Colonel Diyaad also said that both Jubaland forces and troops belonging to Somalia’s federal government remain present in Beled Hawo. He stressed the importance of cooperation between the two sides to maintain security and prevent further instability in the area.
He called for greater coordination among the various security forces operating in Gedo, saying collaboration was essential to protecting civilians and preserving peace in Beled Hawo and the wider region.
The commander’s remarks come amid differing reports about the movement and deployment of Jubaland forces in the strategic border town, which lies near Somalia’s borders with Kenya and Ethiopia.
Beled Hawo is an important location in Gedo region, where relations between federal authorities and Jubaland have been marked by political and security disagreements.
Colonel Diyaad’s statement sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the troops’ arrival, maintaining that their entry into the town was peaceful and that no fighting occurred during their deployment.
The situation on the ground remains important to regional stability, with cooperation between federal and Jubaland security forces likely to play a key role in maintaining order and preventing further tensions.
