Iran Warns of Possible Resumption of War with the United States

TEHRAN — Iranian military officials have warned that the United States could resume military hostilities against Iran, stating that Tehran is prepared to respond immediately to any new attack.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson General Hossein Mohebbi reportedly made the remarks during a media briefing on Monday, October 19, 2026, according to Al Jazeera.

Mohebbi said the possibility of renewed military confrontation with Washington could not be ruled out. He emphasized that Iranian forces were fully prepared to respond if the United States launched another attack against the country.

Iran Warns of a Strong Response

According to the reported remarks, the Iranian military spokesperson said Tehran was prepared to deliver a strong response to any aggression against Iranian territory or its forces.

His comments signal Iran’s continued emphasis on military readiness amid uncertainty over the possibility of renewed hostilities with Washington.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the country would respond to attacks against its territory and national interests. The latest reported statement reinforces that position, although it does not, by itself, confirm that a new military confrontation is imminent.

Tensions Between Washington and Tehran

Relations between Iran and the United States have been marked by longstanding disagreements over regional security, Iran’s nuclear programme, economic sanctions, and military activities across the Middle East.

Any resumption of direct military confrontation could have significant implications for regional stability, potentially affecting neighboring countries, international shipping routes, energy markets, and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The latest warning underscores the uncertainty surrounding the security situation and the importance of monitoring statements from both governments for indications of further escalation or renewed diplomatic engagement.

Military Readiness and the Risk of Escalation

Iran’s stated readiness to respond to a potential attack highlights the continuing risk of escalation should military action resume. However, a warning from a military spokesperson should be distinguished from confirmation that either side has decided to restart hostilities.

Further developments will depend on the actions and official statements of Washington and Tehran, as well as any diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing another round of conflict.
