MOGADISHU — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is facing criticism over decisions that opponents argue have undermined Somalia’s constitutional framework and weakened respect for the rule of law.

Critics have accused the president of disregarding constitutional principles and called for greater accountability over decisions affecting the country’s political and judicial institutions.

They have also highlighted the role of Supreme Court Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed, urging the judiciary to uphold justice, defend constitutional principles and remain independent from political pressure.

The criticism has renewed debate over the separation of powers, judicial independence and the responsibility of public officials to operate within the limits of the law.

Critics further argue that President Hassan Sheikh and other government officials should be held accountable through lawful and constitutional procedures.

The debate has reinforced calls for respect for the Constitution, an independent judiciary and equal application of the law, regardless of an individual’s political position or government authority.
