Rome — The Chief of the Somali National Army, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, is currently on an official visit to Italy, aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
General Odowaa is leading a high-level delegation from the Somali National Army during this diplomatic mission. The delegation was officially received at the headquarters of the Italian Defence General Staff by the Chief of the Italian Defence Staff, General Luciano Portolano.

Both Somalia and Italy expressed a mutual commitment to deepening ties, with emphasis on security cooperation, economic development, and cultural exchange. The visit marks another step in reinforcing the long-standing relationship between the two nations.
Italy and Somalia share historical ties dating back to the post-World War II period, when Italy administered parts of Somalia under a UN trusteeship. Today, both governments are actively working to rebuild and expand this historic relationship across multiple sectors.
The visit underscores the shared strategic interests of both countries in promoting regional stability and collaborative defence efforts in the Horn of Africa.
