Mogadishu – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalan Abdi Ali, on Saturday received the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu, in a meeting that reinforced the strong and historic ties between the two nations.

During the diplomatic engagement, both officials discussed a range of bilateral issues, focusing on deepening cooperation in key sectors including development, education, and security. The meeting placed particular emphasis on the importance of preserving the longstanding historical relationship between Somalia and Italy—a partnership rooted in decades of cultural, economic, and political interaction.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed ongoing joint efforts and explored new areas for collaboration. Discussions also covered ways to enhance diplomatic relations, strengthen mutual interests, and support Somalia’s stability and sustainable development.

Minister Abdisalan expressed appreciation for Italy’s continuous support in Somalia’s peacebuilding and reconstruction efforts, highlighting the vital role that Italy has played as a traditional and strategic partner of Somalia.

Ambassador Daccò Coppi reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to working closely with Somalia to advance shared goals, particularly in promoting good governance, capacity-building, and regional security.

“This meeting reflects the deep-rooted friendship between our countries and our mutual desire to work together for a peaceful and prosperous Somalia,” the ambassador stated.

The meeting is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at renewing and revitalizing Somalia’s international partnerships. It comes at a time when the Horn of Africa nation is pursuing reforms, rebuilding its institutions, and seeking stronger global cooperation to overcome challenges.

The Ministry confirmed that both parties concluded the meeting with a reaffirmed commitment to furthering the bilateral relationship and enhancing cooperation in sectors critical to Somalia’s progress.
