Mogadishu – Heavy fighting has once again erupted in the Meersiis area, located in Elbur district of the Galgaduud region, according to reports reaching Horn Africa News.
The clashes involve armed militias from the towns of Guriceel and Elbur, who are locked in long-standing disputes over land ownership and local resource sharing.
Tensions escalated following a recent incident in which militias from Elbur allegedly killed civilians in parts of Galgaduud, further inflaming hostilities between the rival factions.
Eyewitnesses from the area report intense gunfire and the use of heavy weaponry, with unconfirmed accounts indicating several casualties, including both deaths and injuries.
Fearing for their safety, local residents have begun fleeing their homes, concerned that the violence may spread to other nearby communities.
As of now, local authorities have not issued an official statement on the situation. However, early reports suggest that previous peace efforts have collapsed, paving the way for today’s renewed violence.
Clan-related conflicts like this have occurred repeatedly in Galgaduud, causing widespread insecurity, disrupting the local economy, and restricting the movement of civilians across the region.
