Garowe – A senior police commander in Puntland’s Nugaal region was seriously wounded last night after being shot by a member of his own security detail while he was asleep.
According to preliminary reports, the District Police Commander of Eyl sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident, which occurred under unclear circumstances. He was immediately rushed to the regional capital, Garowe, for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting. However, security forces reportedly apprehended the suspect at the scene.
This incident follows a recent attack on the district commissioner of Eyl, who was also wounded in a separate incident in the same town. The back-to-back assaults on local officials raise concerns over a growing pattern of targeted violence against government representatives in the region.
Investigations are underway, and Puntland authorities have yet to issue an official statement.
