Doha – In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation, the Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation, H.E. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, received the Somali Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Ali Mohamed Omar, who is currently on an official visit to Doha.
During their high-level meeting, the two ministers engaged in in-depth discussions on the longstanding and fraternal relationship between Qatar and Somalia. The talks focused on expanding areas of mutual cooperation, with a strong emphasis on development initiatives, economic partnerships, and technical assistance programs tailored to support Somalia’s national priorities.
Minister Al-Misnad reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to Somalia’s development journey, emphasizing the importance of investing in sustainable projects that contribute to long-term stability and social progress. She noted that Qatar sees Somalia as a strategic partner in the Horn of Africa, and stands ready to provide the support needed to advance the country’s infrastructure, education, healthcare, and institutional capacity.
For his part, Minister Omar expressed appreciation for Qatar’s consistent support to Somalia over the years, highlighting how Qatari-funded projects have played a pivotal role in addressing humanitarian needs and supporting reconstruction efforts. He stressed the need for continued collaboration in order to build resilience and foster self-reliance among Somali communities.
Both sides agreed on the urgency of accelerating development programs in Somalia, particularly in sectors that can generate employment, promote economic growth, and improve public services. They also explored potential new areas of cooperation, including renewable energy, vocational training, and private sector investment.
Minister Omar’s visit comes as part of a broader diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening Somalia’s international partnerships. His engagement with Qatari officials is seen as a reflection of the growing strategic alignment between the two nations, especially in the pursuit of regional peace, economic integration, and sustainable development.
The meeting concluded with a joint reaffirmation of the shared vision and mutual commitment to deepening the historic ties between Somalia and Qatar, in ways that serve the interests and aspirations of both peoples.
