Beled-Hawo — The Federal Government of Somalia has taken full control of Beled-Hawo district in the Gedo region, following intense clashes that took place over the past week.

The fighting pitted federal troops against forces loyal to Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur (commonly known as Janan), the intelligence chief (NISA) for Jubbaland, along with allied militias supporting Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also known as Ahmed Madobe.

According to local sources in Beled-Hawo, the opposition forces suffered a heavy defeat, allowing the federal troops to seize key installations across the district. These include the police station, the district administrative headquarters, and major commercial checkpoints.

Communications infrastructure, which had been disrupted during the fighting, has now been restored, bringing much-needed relief to local residents who had endured several days of complete disconnection.

Although the Federal Government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the military operation, military sources confirmed that government troops are now firmly in control of the district and have launched clearance operations to track down fleeing opposition fighters.

The situation in Beled-Hawo is reported to be calm as of now, with civilians cautiously returning to their daily routines.

This latest development marks a significant shift in the ongoing power struggle between the Federal Government and the Jubbaland administration over control of key areas in southern Somalia.
