Mogadishu – Heavily armed assailants launched an overnight attack on the former Steel Factory compound in Dayniile district, Mogadishu, opening fire in the early hours of the morning, according to local sources.

The assault, which began around 3:00 a.m., targeted an area reportedly occupied by members of the Somali Federal Government forces. Witnesses reported intense gunfire that continued for several minutes, sparking fear among nearby residents.

Authorities have not yet released any official statement regarding the incident, and the number of casualties or extent of the damage remains unclear as of Sunday morning.

The site of the attack, once a civilian-inhabited area, has become a sensitive zone since it came under government control. Residents say families were previously displaced when the military moved in.

“It was a terrifying night,” one resident told Risaala Media. “Heavy gunfire broke out around 3:00 AM. The area that came under attack was once home to civilians who were later displaced. This morning, the situation seems calm, but people are still anxious.”

The motives behind the attack remain unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility. However, incidents involving armed groups targeting government positions have been recurrent in various parts of Mogadishu.

Security officials are expected to launch an investigation into the incident.
