Mogadishu – A massive fire broke out at Suuq Bacaad, one of the largest markets in Mogadishu, causing significant destruction to property, according to journalists from Risaala Media who are reporting live from the scene.

The blaze spread rapidly across multiple sections of the market, consuming goods and property belonging mostly to small-scale traders. While there have been no reported casualties so far, the financial losses are described as extensive.

Firefighters are currently working tirelessly to bring the fire under control, and according to eyewitnesses, their efforts are making considerable progress. Police officers are also at the scene, assisting traders in salvaging their goods before the flames reach them.

Rescue operations are still underway, with hopes that the fire will be fully contained within the coming hours.

This incident highlights the ongoing negligence and poor governance in the Banadir region, where authorities have failed to implement clear emergency response plans or provide adequate fire trucks for major markets in the capital. As a result, fires frequently break out in these areas, leading to devastating losses for business owners who already contribute through taxes but see little to no protection or service in return.
