Baidoa – The Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 (CHF 2025) officially kicked off on Tuesday in Baidoa, bringing together key national and international stakeholders to strengthen the country’s humanitarian response through a unified, inclusive, and coordinated approach.

Organized by the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), the high-level forum serves as a vital platform to reassess, realign, and reinforce humanitarian efforts across Somalia.

This year’s central theme focuses on improving the effectiveness and coherence of humanitarian actions, particularly in the face of climate-induced disasters, mass displacement, food insecurity, and limited access to basic services.

Participants are engaging in strategic discussions around priority areas, including:

  • Enhancing coordination between federal, state authorities, and humanitarian partners;
  • Strengthening the management and transparency of humanitarian financing;
  • Promoting local leadership in disaster preparedness and response;
  • Building community resilience in drought- and flood-affected regions;
  • Encouraging inclusive and accountable decision-making processes.

In his opening remarks, SoDMA Commissioner reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to leading its own humanitarian agenda and emphasized the importance of aligning international support with nationally driven strategies.

The forum also provides a platform to evaluate existing humanitarian response plans, identify gaps in service delivery, and reinforce partnerships among key actors.

CHF 2025 is expected to conclude with actionable recommendations, joint action plans, and renewed commitments that will shape Somalia’s humanitarian roadmap in the coming years.

The selection of Baidoa as the host city underscores its strategic role in humanitarian efforts and the South West State’s frontline experience in managing complex emergencies and accommodating large displaced populations.
