Aden – The Vice President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Aidarus al-Zubaidi, held an official meeting in the city of Aden with Somalia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Abdulkheir Mohamed Ahmed. The two discussed in depth the enhancement of bilateral relations and regional security cooperation.

The meeting, held at the Maashiq Presidential Palace, came at a time when the Horn of Africa is facing growing challenges related to political instability, irregular migration, and the activities of extremist groups.

President al-Zubaidi emphasized that South Yemen is ready to closely cooperate with Somalia, particularly in maritime security, combating piracy, human trafficking, and armed groups linked to international extremist networks.

“There must be unified regional efforts to ensure the safety of the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea,” al-Zubaidi said, warning especially about the growing ties between Al-Shabaab, the Houthis, and Al-Qaeda.

Somalia’s Ambassador, Abdulkheir Mohamed Ahmed, reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to making the Yemen-Somalia relationship strategic, highlighting that genuine cooperation is key to lasting security.

The meeting also discussed the issue of irregular migration, with both sides agreeing on the need for a unified plan to prevent humanitarian disasters, following a recent incident off the coast of Abyan where a boat carrying African migrants capsized.
