Hargeisa – Somaliland police have released detailed information on violent riots that erupted late Friday night in Hargeisa, causing significant casualties and widespread property damage.

Police spokesperson said the unrest was concentrated in the Ahmed Dhagax district, where at least 10 police officers and three civilians were injured. Businesses in the area were looted, and several vehicles traveling along the main road were vandalized, sparking fear and disruption among residents.

“This was not a protest or a peaceful demonstration,” the police spokesperson stressed during a press conference. “Shops near the area were looted, vehicles on the road were destroyed, and a total of 10 police officers and three civilians were injured. We will take immediate action against those responsible.”

Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway and that anyone involved in organizing or carrying out the violence will be brought before the law.

“The individuals behind last night’s events will be held fully accountable and prosecuted,” the spokesperson added, warning against any further attempts to organize similar unrest that could endanger the safety and security of Hargeisa’s residents.

Hargeisa has faced a wave of insecurity in recent weeks, including multiple killings under unclear circumstances, adding to public anxiety over the city’s stability.
