Garowe – Police authorities in Puntland’s Nugaal region have announced the arrest of several suspects following the killing of a motorbike taxi driver in Garowe late last night.

According to a statement from the Nugaal Regional Police Command, the incident took place in the Naaso Hablood area of the city, where Khadar Abdi Yusuf Nur, a motorbike taxi (bajaj) driver, was fatally attacked. Preliminary reports says that a gang armed with knives carried out the assault before fleeing the scene.

Police say they responded immediately, securing the area and apprehending individuals suspected of involvement in the killing. A formal investigation is underway, and officials have promised that full details will be released once the inquiry is complete.

“The police reached the scene promptly and successfully apprehended suspects linked to the incident. A thorough investigation is ongoing, and further information will be shared upon its conclusion,” the police statement read.

The murder has sparked widespread outrage among local residents, particularly fellow motorbike taxi drivers and the victim’s relatives. Many took to the streets in protest, demanding that the government and security agencies bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to proceed, assuring them that justice will be served.
