Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply on Tuesday following Iran’s missile strikes targeting U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq. According to a press release issued by Iran’s Security Council, the attacks were intended as a direct response to previous U.S. operations against Iranian nuclear facilities.
The Council stated that the missiles used in the strikes were equipped with high-powered explosive warheads, comparable in scale to those used by the United States in its recent bombardments. Iranian officials framed the assault as a “proportional response” meant to send a clear signal of retaliation.
U.S. media outlet FOX News reported that American military intelligence had anticipated the attacks well in advance. As a result, key aircraft were evacuated several hours before the strikes, and defensive systems were activated in preparation to intercept the incoming missiles.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) publicly confirmed the strikes earlier in the day, emphasizing that they had initiated a “decisive response” to what they called violations of Iranian sovereignty and international law.
Meanwhile, Arab governments across the region swiftly condemned Iran’s actions. In coordinated statements, they described the missile strikes as a breach of national sovereignty and a destabilizing act that threatens the security of the entire region.
Iran’s military command reiterated that the attacks were exclusively directed at U.S. military installations, framing them as legitimate retaliatory measures. President Ebrahim Raisi warned that Iran would respond to any future aggression, declaring that “any place from which attacks are launched against Iran will be within our reach.”
As the situation continues to unfold, international observers are closely monitoring for further developments or potential escalations between Iran, the United States, and regional powers.
