GAROWE — A violent confrontation between armed militias erupted on the eastern outskirts of Garowe, the capital of Puntland State, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.

Eyewitnesses report that the clash occurred near the 22nd Park area, with gunfire exchanged between rival factions. Three individuals sustained injuries in the fighting, while local security forces were quickly deployed to contain the situation.

Preliminary accounts say the conflict was sparked by a land dispute between the groups. Authorities have not yet released an official statement, but the area remains tense as residents and security personnel continue to monitor developments.

The incident coincides with recent unrest among Puntland security forces, who staged a brief mutiny over unpaid salaries, disrupting key routes, including the highway linking central Somalia’s Galkayo and Beledweyne towns to the capital, Mogadishu.
