Beledweyne – Retired Admiral Khalif Idiris Osman, a well-known figure in Somalia’s Hiiraan region and among the senior officers of the former Somali Democratic Republic, has passed away in Beledweyne town.

Family members confirmed that Admiral Khalif died early this morning after a prolonged illness.
He had been receiving treatment in Beledweyne in recent months before succumbing to his illness.
Admiral Khalif Idiris Osman served for many years in the Somali Navy, where he held senior positions and contributed significantly to the development of the naval forces during Somalia’s military era. He was widely respected for his long career in service to the nation.

His death has been met with condolences from relatives, community elders, and former colleagues who remembered him as a committed officer and a prominent personality in Hiiraan.
Admiral Khalif’s legacy remains part of Somali military history, particularly for his role in strengthening the country’s naval capabilities during the government of the late President Mohamed Siad Barre.
Before his death, Admiral Idiris frequently advocated for the cause of the Hiiraan region and opposed the manner in which the disputed Hirshabelle administration was established.
