KAMPALA, (HAN) – The Chairman of the Somali National Higher Education Commission, Prof. Abdinur Sheikh Mohamed, delivered a keynote address at the ongoing East African Community (EAC) Higher Education Conference in Kampala.

In his remarks, Prof. Mohamed highlighted Somalia’s efforts to rebuild and modernize its higher education sector after decades of conflict and institutional collapse.
He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in education, noting that Somalia’s integration into EAC frameworks offers an opportunity for academic exchange, research collaboration, and harmonization of university standards across the region.
The conference, which brings together education ministers, policymakers, university leaders, and academic experts from EAC member states, focuses on strengthening higher education systems to meet the demands of a growing youth population.
Discussions also include strategies for digital transformation in universities, quality assurance, student mobility, and aligning curricula with labor market needs.
