LASANOD, (HAN) – The Northeast State administration has condemned an airstrike that killed a traditional elder in Sanaag region, describing it as a grave violation of Somali sovereignty and security.

According to regional authorities, the September 13, 2025, strike hit the Jinacyo area of Ceelbuh district, killing respected clan elder Omar Abdullahi Abdi Ibrahim.

In a statement, the Northeast administration extended condolences to the elder’s family and the wider Somali public, calling the attack a “heinous act” that undermines peace and stability in the region.

The statement also denounced the presence of unidentified aircraft in Somali airspace, warning that such operations pose a serious threat to civilians and communities.

The administration urged the Federal Government of Somalia to take stronger measures to protect the country’s airspace and ensure the safety of its citizens. It also demanded accountability for the killing, stressing that the land, skies, and dignity of Northeast State must remain inviolable.
