Mogadishu: The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received a high-level delegation from the European External Action Service (EEAS) at the National Presidential Palace, Villa Somalia, as stated in a press release from the Presidential Office.

The delegation was led by the Director for Africa at the EEAS, Mr. Jonas Jonsson, and was accompanied by the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Mrs. Karin Johansson. The meeting focused on strengthening the broad cooperation between Somalia and the European Union, which is based on various areas, including security, development, good governance, and humanitarian assistance.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its continued support for Somalia, particularly its role in state-building, peacebuilding, economic development, and the promotion of the democratic process.

“It is essential to further strengthen strategic cooperation to ensure lasting stability and inclusive development in Somalia,” the Presidential Office’s statement read.

The European Union remains one of Somalia’s key strategic partners, providing visible support in areas such as military training, constitutional reform, electoral processes, and ongoing development projects in the country.

The meeting also discussed future cooperation opportunities, including economic stability, addressing climate change, youth development, and regional security.

This meeting comes at a time when Somalia is undergoing significant reforms aimed at strengthening its federal system and preparing for the transfer of security responsibilities from international forces to the country’s national security agencies.
