ISTANBUL, (HAN) – Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has held high-level talks with Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacir, in Istanbul. The meeting aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in advanced technology, maritime development, and youth empowerment.

Discussions centered on enhancing innovation partnerships between the two countries, with Somalia seeking to benefit from Turkey’s rapid progress in technological development and industrial capacity. Minister Abdulkadir emphasized that Somalia is committed to using such collaborations to modernize its port infrastructure, strengthen maritime transport services, and create new opportunities for Somali youth in the technology and maritime sectors.

The Somali minister also commended Turkey’s global leadership in hosting TEKNOFEST 2025, the world’s largest aerospace, satellite, and technology festival, which brings together innovators, scientists, and young talents from around the world.

“Turkey is a leading example of successful technological development. We are committed to leveraging this expertise to improve Somalia’s port infrastructure and maritime transport services,” Minister Abdulkadir said after the meeting.

The talks are part of Somalia’s broader national strategy to modernize its critical infrastructure through strategic international partnerships. Strengthening ties with Turkey—a country that has played an important role in Somalia’s reconstruction and capacity-building over the past decade—reflects Mogadishu’s vision of aligning its development goals with global technological advancements.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for concrete agreements in technology transfer, maritime training, and youth empowerment programs, reinforcing Somalia-Turkey relations and supporting Somalia’s long-term economic recovery and modernization efforts.
