JIGJIGA, (HAN) – Dr. Abdirahman Sheikh Mahdi, widely known as Maadey, Chairman of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), has accused Somali Region President Mustafe Mohamed Omar, also known as Agjar, of plotting a crackdown against ONLF leaders and members.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Dr. Maadey alleged that President Mustafe—who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Somali Democratic Party, now part of Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party—has devised a plan to arrest ONLF leaders, raid their offices, and intimidate members.
According to Dr. Maadey, the scheme is intended to provoke the ONLF into reacting, which could then be used to justify violence against its supporters.
“I am warning all ONLF members in Ogadenia, or the Somali Regional State, to be cautious of the trap being set by Agjar,” he wrote. “Agjar’s plan is to arrest them, raid their offices, and provoke them into reacting—so that he can legitimize spilling their blood and inflict harm upon them.”
The ONLF leader urged supporters to remain calm, avoid confrontation, and not “give the dictator serving colonial powers the chance to harm you.” He stressed that the Somali people’s struggle “cannot be erased by arrests, killings, or displacement.”
His warning comes amid heightened political tensions in Ethiopia’s Somali Region, where opposition groups have repeatedly accused the regional administration of repression and human rights violations.
