MOGADISHU (HAN) – The Somali Police Coast Guard today carried out a joint maritime operation in collaboration with the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR ATALANTA).
The operation focused on maritime security, including vessel boarding and search operations (VBSS), communication protocols, and the safeguarding of key sea routes. Its primary aim was to enhance the operational skills and coordination of Somalia’s coastal security forces.
The mission was led by the Commander of the Somali Police Coast Guard, Brigadier General Bashir Abdi Qasim, along with Deputy Commander Brigadier General Hussein Abukar Yalaxow.
Officials highlighted that the initiative underscores the Somali Police Coast Guard’s readiness to enforce maritime law and uphold international obligations to protect vessels navigating Somali waters.
The joint operation reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Somalia’s maritime security capabilities and deepen collaboration with international partners in combating threats at sea.
