MOKOKORI, (HAN) – Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces, supported by international partners, have carried out a successful counterterrorism operation in the town of Moqokori, central Somalia, killing three senior members of the Al-Shabaab militant group.

Among those killed was Abdi Hiiray, a top Al-Shabaab commander accused of masterminding several deadly attacks targeting civilians and government institutions in Hirshabelle State. Security sources described Hiiray as a central figure in planning and directing operations against Somali forces and civilian populations.
“Hiiray was the mastermind of multiple terrorist operations against government facilities and innocent civilians,” a senior security official told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation.
Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported among Somali forces or their international partners. The operation was hailed as a “significant blow” to the insurgent group, which maintains a strong presence in central Somalia.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its stance that it will not negotiate with Al-Shabaab, which it continues to label as a major threat to national security.
“The government remains committed to eradicating terrorism and ensuring peace and stability across the country,” a government statement read.
Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, has waged a deadly insurgency in Somalia for more than a decade, frequently targeting military positions, civilians, and critical infrastructure.
