MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim, has strongly condemned a group of Somali youths who were seen desecrating the Kenyan national flag. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over respect for national symbols in the region.

Ambassador Jabril described the act as “unacceptable and irresponsible,” stressing that such behavior damages relations between the Somali and Kenyan people, who share deep cultural, historical, and economic ties. He further noted that the Somali government values its diplomatic relations with Kenya and does not condone acts that undermine mutual respect.

The head coach of Mogadishu City Club also criticized the youths, saying their actions were not representative of Somali sportsmanship or the values of the wider community. He called on young people to act responsibly, particularly in matters that touch on national dignity and international relations.

Authorities confirmed that the individuals involved in the incident are expected to face legal action and may soon be taken into custody.

The incident comes at a time when Somalia and Kenya have been working to strengthen bilateral ties, following years of strained relations. Officials in Mogadishu emphasized that isolated incidents such as this should not derail ongoing efforts toward cooperation and understanding between the two neighboring countries.
