MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali presidential candidate Sultan Abdi Qorane has accused the federal government’s leadership of failing to provide direction for the country, warning that the shortcomings are undermining national unity.

Qorane said the government’s inability to govern effectively has weakened social cohesion and created an opening for the militant group Al-Shabaab to exploit. He noted that the group has increasingly commented on the large-scale displacement of civilians, which he described as a growing threat to security and stability, particularly in Mogadishu where displacement is rising.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political tensions in Somalia, with growing criticism directed at the current administration in Villa Somalia. Analysts say his statement is likely to feed into the wider political debate ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
