Mogadishu – Somalia’s Federal Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, held a high-level meeting in Mogadishu with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, to discuss strengthening bilateral defense cooperation.
The discussions centered on enhancing military collaboration between the two countries and expediting the ongoing efforts to combat the Al-Shabaab militant group, which continues to pose a threat to Somalia’s security and stability.
Ambassador Wang Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Somalia through the provision of military equipment and training for the Somali Armed Forces. He emphasized China’s readiness to play a vital role in boosting Somalia’s defense capabilities to ensure lasting peace and national security.
Minister Fiqi expressed deep appreciation for China’s consistent support, particularly in the areas of security, development, and strategic cooperation. He noted that such partnerships are essential in Somalia’s journey toward peace and state-building.
This meeting underscores the growing diplomatic and defense ties between Somalia and China, who continue to cooperate closely on matters related to sovereignty, stability, and regional security.
